What should I check on my website before launch day?

Short answer

Check 14 basics: HTTPS, a clear title under about 60 characters, a meta description, one H1, no noindex, a canonical tag, structured data, a lang attribute, an og:image, Open Graph title and description, a twitter:card, a mobile viewport tag, a favicon and a fast first server response. None of these make you rank, but each one missed can waste a launch.

The expensive mistakes

The worst one is a leftover noindex from staging, which tells search engines to ignore the page. Next come a missing og:image, which turns every share into a text only card, and a missing mobile viewport tag, which makes phones render a shrunken desktop page. All three take a minute to fix and are easy to miss.

The polish

A title that says what the product does, a one or two sentence meta description, exactly one H1, a canonical tag so tracking parameters do not create duplicate pages, a little JSON-LD such as Organization or SoftwareApplication, a lang attribute and a favicon. Finally, a slow first response hurts first impressions before your page even draws.

Step by step

  1. Run the checks. Paste your URL into a launch readiness checker for a score and a fix for each miss.
  2. Fix the red ones first. noindex, missing share image and missing viewport matter most.
  3. Preview your share card. Check how the link looks on X, LinkedIn and Slack before you post it.

Frequently asked questions

Will a perfect score make me rank?

No. These checks remove common mistakes; ranking still depends on content, links and time.

How long does Google show of a title?

Roughly 60 characters on desktop before it is cut, so put the product name and what it does first.

What counts as a fast response?

Our checker treats under 800 ms as good and over 2 seconds as a problem for the first server response.
