Not sure if you should pay cash or burn miles for a flight? This tool tells you the value you are getting per point. Enter the cash price of the ticket, the number of miles or points the award costs, and any taxes and fees you still have to pay on the award booking. It subtracts the cash you save by not paying taxes, divides the remaining value by the points spent, and shows the redemption value in cents per point. Compare that number to a typical baseline of around one to one and a half cents per point to decide whether the redemption is a good deal or whether you should keep the miles for a better use. It works for airline miles, hotel points, and card rewards. Everything is computed locally in your browser.
It subtracts the cash cost of the award, such as fees, from the cash fare you would otherwise pay, then divides by the points used to give cents per point.
Compare the cents per point to a baseline you value each point at; a higher redemption value than your baseline means the award is a good deal.
Award tickets still carry taxes and surcharges, so subtracting them from the cash fare gives the true saving the points actually deliver.
