About Google Fonts
Google Fonts hosts a huge catalog of open source typefaces, all free for commercial use, with previews, pairing suggestions and easy embedding or download. It is the default answer to "where do I get a decent free font".
Best for: Use this when you need quality typography without licensing headaches.
Pros
- Everything is free for commercial use
- Variable font support and specimen previews
- Download for self-hosting or embed in one line
Cons
- Popular picks are everywhere, distinctive choices take digging
- Hotlinking from Google raises GDPR concerns in the EU, self-host to be safe
