AI assistants can only recommend a site they are allowed to read. Enter your address and this checker reads your robots.txt the way each crawler would, for OpenAI search and training, Perplexity, Anthropic, Google, Bing and Common Crawl, and tells you which ones you are blocking. It also fetches your page with the GPTBot user agent to catch firewalls that refuse AI bots, checks for noindex, measures how much text is in the HTML before any JavaScript runs, and looks for structured data, a sitemap and an llms.txt file. A crawler allowed in robots.txt can still be blocked by IP-based rules we cannot see from outside, so treat a pass as necessary, not sufficient.
It is a choice. GPTBot is OpenAI’s training crawler; OAI-SearchBot is the one ChatGPT search uses. Many sites block training but allow search crawlers so they can still be cited.
It is optional. Some AI tools read it, but Google has said it does not use it, so it is a small extra, not a requirement.
Many crawlers read the HTML your server sends and do not run scripts. If your words only appear after JavaScript runs, those crawlers see an almost empty page.
